Directions Needed? Here They Are!

From US119/E. Main Street cross the Bridge Street Bridge (the one by the Railroad Hotel).
At the end of the bridge, take an easy left turn onto Barrett Street/Knottsville Road. Passing Jerry's Restaurant, travel 3.7 miles, then turn right onto Haislip Road (not marked, but look for the Hartland sign and the soccer field on the left; on the right is a nice windmill and log home).
Follow Haislip Road 1.5 miles until you see the facilities on the right. See you soon!

Spring's A Comin'

Do doubt about it, Spring will be here shortly and not a day too soon! It's been a long winter, as everyone knows, and we are all anxious to get back to camp and catch up on good times. Take note of the list of important dates. This list is by no means all-inclusive. Hopefully we can add a few more things as we go along, but definitely mark your calendars now for what I do have listed.

I definitely have a lot of work to do to get things ready for the season. I haven't been able to get much done this winter with the bad weather we've experienced. I have several improvements planned with my own self-imposed deadlines for completion. Very high on the list is getting the miniature golf course set up. This is going to take considerable people power, so we will make a weekend just for that project as soon as it warms up enough to open the campers.

News & Notes

It's been much too long since my last post and I apologize. The month of December was very, very hectic. Very early in the month my older brother, Freddy, became ill and was admitted to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. After about ten days he was transported to UPMC in Pittsburgh, and eight days later on December 20, 2008 Freddy passed away. He was 48.
I was glad to see the new year arrive, especially since Donna and I were scheduled to vacation in Jamaica, which we did. It was a wonderful trip and I will post more later including photos.
Until then, hang in there and enjoy the beautiful snow.

Learning Curve

Where Do All The Deer Go?

The great annual West Virginia holiday period also known as "deer season" opens next Monday. I haven't hunted in several years as I figured I have no need to prove my manhood by killing and I have plenty of good beef and pork in the freezer. However, since Doc says my cholesterol is too high and venison is noteably quite lower in cholesterol than beef, I have re-thought my decision to hunt only through the lense of my Canon. Afterall, it's not like I don't support these animals by giving them a great vegetable garden to eat out of as well as other treats I bring home from work.
Zayley and I spent most of the afternoon in the woods with my GPS unit attempting to do some mapping. We ran across several deer including a couple bucks. Upon returning to the house, I told Donna of the many deer we had seen. She proceeded to point out to me a buck that was grazing less than thirty yards from our house on our front lawn. I am sure that there will not be a trace of any of these deer if in fact I do go out with the rifle, just as the biggest and best fish always seem to quit biting as soon as I cast my line.

Winter Weather Has Arrived

Old man winter is trying to make his presence felt as a trace of snow is evident here and there. From the looks of the forecast we can expect more of the same for the next several days. I believe this calls for some homemade soup, so I believe I will put on a pot of 15 Bean Soup later today.

Speaking of tasty vittles, I highly recommend visiting The Grafton 123 Coffee House. It has become one of our favorite places. Not only can you find a wide variety of coffees and teas, you can also enjoy a wide variety of tasty treats, daily hot lunch specials, homemade pepperoni rolls and so on. A couple bits of neighborhood news: It looks like another gas well is going to be drilled over on the Haislip Farm as some large earth moving equipment has been brought in...Mike Collins owner of the old farm just out the road from our house has passed after a battle with cancer...I'm planning to raise pigs again next year as well as a few head of beef. Stay tuned for more information.

Zayley Sue

Meet our favorite companion, Zayley. She is quite a character and a very loving animal although she will pout when things don't go her way (no comment). She delights in riding on the Gator and going with me wherever I go. Spoiled? Absolutely! I told Donna we needed a king size bed so the three of us could have more room.

Everyone's gone now. Gene and Barb left for Florida last Thursday morning. I may have to get Princess some Prozac as she acts pretty depressed. There were no visitors over the weekend that I know of.
